hey i got aoeIII today and im having some trouble installing it. First of all when it told me to swtich to cd 2, i put cd2 in and then it said it was the wrong disk and to insert disk 1  but it was working whilst that message was there, so i decided to leave it and then noticed that i had stopped installing so i tried to get rid of that error message by ctrl alt delte and it stopped the whole install screeeen!
so i had to reinstall it and its been going for about 45 min and its only 15 bars and stuck on C:\..\Microsoft Games\Age Of Empires III\avi\Act3FinalCine.bik for ages!!!!!!!!! HELP MEEEEE    ![]() edit: and i have had about to error messages saying it cannot find the file Act3FinalCine.bik or something so i pressed retry twice and it carries on... h34r:

Uninstall everything you have for AOE 3
Shut down the PC and wait 10 sec for the whole system to refresh, Start it up once its all done loading up the Windowes Screen FULLY! Press ctrl alt del and Any thing running that you don't need Turn off. Once thats done put in cd 1 and let it go, but make sure you have like 4 gigs Open in your hardrive... Initialization Failed/D3D Error:
First make sure you guys all have the latest drivers and make sure that your monitor is running at a supported resolution and refresh rate. Try changing your desktop resolution to 1024 x 768 at 75 hertz. 1. Go to start / settings / control panel / and click on display. 2. Click on the settings tab and click on advanced 3. Click on the monitor tab and change the drop down to 75 Hertz 4. Click on OK and restart your computer There is also an issue with some third party software causing this issue. Look for 2 programs on your system. Refreshlock and Refreshforce Both of those programs can cause this issue. You can work around the software by manually setting your refresh rate under your monitor settings. The nvCPL message is only applicable to machines with an SLI (i.e. multiple video card) setup. As stated previously, ensure you have the latest drivers and have followed the refresh rate instructions here: Sticky:Initialization Failed/D3D Error. If after this you're still getting a Direct 3D Initialization Failed, here are 2 more workarounds to try. -Workaround 1 - Start in windowed mode 1) Create or edit the file My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\Startup\user.cfg 2) On a new line add the word "window", without the quotes 3) Restart the game -Workaround 2 - Start the game at your current resolution and refresh rate 1) Identify your current working resolution and refresh rate (or one that you know works) through your Display Property settings (i.e. 1024 x 768, 60 Hz) 2) Open the following file for editing: My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\Users\NewProfile.xml 3) Go to the resolution setting line (around line 30) that says this: <Setting Name="optiongrfxres">1024 x 768</Setting> 4) Edit the resolution text to match the working resolution you identified earlier. 5) Go to the refresh rate setting line (around line 67) that says this: <Setting Name="optionrefreshrate"> 75 </Setting> 6) Edit the refresh rate value to the working rate you identified earlier 7) Restart the game NOTE: Be very careful editing NewProfile.xml as it can be easy to put invalid text in many of these settings. If during this process you feel you may have messed up this file, you can delete it and it will regenerate to default settings. Please let us know what behavior you see in these cases. If it is still failing, copy the entire contents of your age3log.txt to your reply post. Thanks for your assistance and your continued patience.
