The way I see it, Russians have a bit of a poor economy. Sure, settlers cost 10 less food, but they take longer, and normal players will have 2 settlers already popped out and gathering resources, and a third just build by the time you get your 3 created.

The Russian Military is terrible, until you get to Fortress age and Oprichnicks become available. I managed to defeat a russian player (who used a lot of musketeers and strelets) just by sending the Archaic Training shipment (Spanish shipment which increase pikeman/xbow build speed), built 2 rax (my wood production was dominating) and then took him completely out by training around 50 xbows and 20 pikes in about 1:30 minutes.

Oh, and Badger, if you PM me and I don't respond, chances are I'm not there :P so theres no need posting 5 messages all titled 'Hello' or 'Yo'. I'll get to them eventually.

i actually like russians, they may be abit slow getting to 1st age but u can build blockhouses in age 1 so u can start making army as soon as u hit age 2 where with all other civs u can't build a barracks before age 2

i peroasnally think russians are good, orps rox ^^

@ savage, they have 2x attack vs infantry so they r good-ish vs most 2nd age rushes (its when they starts making horses that u gotta mix in some musks), also, like the ottomans they can have gren's in 2nd age so mass strelets protecting grens can be quite good at taking out tc's ect ect

Too bad its not a rush... I like killing my enemies off nice 'n' fast.

My best game was when I built around 100 tercios, I had about 4 rax, and kept sending wave after wave of tercios (as soon as they died, I had another 5 pop out in 10 seconds) into enemies base. Most units killed, most units lost :lol:

Should make a poll "Do British Suck". They're popular, but whenever they fight me its always gg under 10 minutes

all i think the russians are good for r there grenaders and the stretlet rushing i cant stand them the stretlets suck i hate training them up aswell OHH onli lvl 3 it will b like that for a long time

in my opinion russians dont suck but theyre not that great. the strekets piss me off so much. if u r russians all u need to do is get like 8 blockhouses place em at the front of ur civ and just buidl strelets. these strelets will get you to the 3rd and 4th along with the 8 blockhouses with canons sitting in the front of ur civ. they key to working good with the russians is a lot of economy. thats why this strategy is hard to work becuz the russian economy is ahrd to get going which means this start will only work in longer no rush games in which u can not worry about ur military until the third or fourth age.

Played a game yesterday. Me (as russians

), a Frenchie, and I think Spain vs. 2 French and a German... sure loss for us :angry:

Anyway, after experiencing my entire army, and most of my base being decimated by Doppelsoldners... I must say, Russians have a worse military than Germans in Colonial. :mellow:

Its back to Spain for me ^_^

the german military doesnt suck that bad in the colonial age but there is better. you dont have to buy any uhlans either so u r set to focus on economy until the fourth age or so. I end up having a ****load of uhlans in some of my major battles and ill i paid for was upgrading them.

I don't think the russians suck. I think they are quite good. Strelets are probably the most useful and cost-efficient unit in the game. They are cheap and they have a 2x attack against heavy infantry. Sure they are weak, thats why they come in 10. Strelets cant be used as a good meatshield, and they are perfect for countering heavy infantry such as musketeers, and again they are cheap. I've played in games where decent russian players would just use Strelets are their primary unit, especially if they are countering the British, Portugese, or Russian. I do agree that they may suck in small groups, but in large group, they are phenomenal!

Yes but, the population/resource usage is not good, especially seeing that if your enemy builds 20 hussars they could decimate your ranks with few casualties.

Its good that they get grenadiers though

I love massing them up (esp. the few times I played as Dutch)

That said, I have witnessed Janissaries (before patch) overwhelmed by strelets - I'm not saying their POINTLESS, but there are much better units to train.
