In my recent games I've been thinking how intimately you can get to know the maps in AoE3. True, in past Age games you could have excellent knowledge of game maps, but imo it seems even more so in AoE3.
Consider this: On Rockies 2v2 you and your ally either start w/ your bases in the S/SW OR in the N/NE. How come the map never spawns w/ your bases in the top left (N/NW) or lower right (S/SE)? It is the same on Pampas/New England/Great Lakes/Yukon/Yucatan etc. In short all maps are this way. In previous Age of games your starting base could spawn on any of the 4 map sides. In AoE3 your spawn points are limited to two of the four map sides (yes, I'm aware it is a circle). While this may not bother most people, I personally would like the extra variety of spawning bases along an opposite diagonal line. 1v1 usually spawns players roughly SW vs NE. How come we can't spawn SE vs NW? So my question is thus; Are the maps in AoE3 truly random or more repetative in nature?

Repetative, but random enough.
Unknown is just crazy. |
