Games for Windows – LIVE to support RTS classic Age of Empires II: Age of Kings
REDMOND, Wash. – April 1, 2007 – Microsoft Corp. today announced the support for Age of Empires II: Age of Kings® on its Games for Windows – LIVE service, bringing its first-class online multiplayer matchmaking services to the classic hit Age of Empires II: Age of Kings®. Debuting on May 8, 2007, with the launch of Games for Windows – LIVE, the service will restore the ease of use previously only found in MSN Gaming Zone® and introduce the game to millions of players worldwide through its online store. The announcement marks a new initiative by the company to support legacy games on the Games for Windows® platform. “We want to support the fan base of all our games,” said Yvonne Legova, program manager of the Legacy Games for Windows® program. “The benefits of expanding Games for Windows – LIVE to legacy games is twofold: We’re providing a valuable service to the multiplayer community who have been without a first-class online matchmaking system since the end-of-support on MSN Zone®, and we’re introducing old classics to millions of players through the convenience of downloading the game via an online store.” Gamers will be able to purchase Age of Empires II: Age of Kings via the online store on May 8, 2007. A patch will be issued to current owners of the game after activating their CD-Keys online. About Games for Windows Microsoft Windows is the most popular operating system in the world for games, delivering the widest range of titles, the most gaming hardware choices, and advanced gaming technology for players of all types.
