On May 18th, 2002, a Houston jury convicted him of aggravated sexual assault of a child; in June the same jury sentenced him to 45 years in prison. Coy's patterns of behavior were called into question as the result of previous relationships. The year before his molestation trial, Jill Odom filed a lawsuit against SPM to declare him the legal father of her son Jordan. Odom was 13 years old at the time of her relationship with Coy, and gave birth to a child at age 14. Coy, who was in his twenties while allegedly dating the seventh grader, was proven to be Jordan's father as the result of paternity testing.[1]

While no physical evidence had been produced that Coy had performed oral sex on the nine year old, he was found guilty and was later accused by eight other girls and young women of underage sexual activity.[1]
