Quake III Arena.

Anyone remember/still play it.
I do, and its gone far (Efreeze rules ) My favourite FPS (maybe because its so simple - just your basic point and shoot at anything thats not you, none of that team command, vehicle control etc.)
There are better FPS (never said this was the best) but this is like, one of the first decent ones.
It seems to be dominated by Polish and French Speakers, but I've found someone that speaks English frequently

Have a go at it... its much faster than some FPS, such as Killzone.

I used to play it, till I got a new comp and the game was too old for it. Still it was pretty entertaining, LOVE the rail gun ^_^

Yes, you've got to creep around, get a decent position vs. your enemies.

In Quake 3 you charge into the heat of battle with a rocket launcher and pump out rockets like crazy

Modern FPS are turning into a soldier roleplaying game.

I guess. But that makes it more releastic, I don't see people in Saving Private Ryan running up the beach with a rocket launcher :P

Maybe I should give a brief summary of Quake 3 Arena:

There is a place... worse than hell. You are pitted up against fellow gladiators for the amusement of 'The Arena Masters'. You die in excruitiating pain, yet are reborn, and once again you must fight for your life. This is known as The Arena Eternal

So the story sucks :P. But what matters is the gameplay. Choosing a model (which were mainly cybernetic, human, alien or undead) the rules are as follows:

*imitates Quake 3 Arena referee voice*
"Welcome to Quake 3 Arena. Enter the portal to begin combat. The gladiator's aim to hunt others, in order to get frags, or 'kills'."

This was a simple fast paced frag anything that isn't you game, with team modes for strategical play. You had infinate lives, and when you died instead of looking at the gibs you would click the mouse button repeatedly to respawn

You never got to choose any 'outside missions', but there were some with an open sky. You were always in a building with a theme of Gothic, Techno, or Space (space being the only 'open' one, though there was obviously no terrain

Uh-oh, I've ranted a bit

Ye was a great game an as said earlier there isnt many fast paced games now all going too realistic. Only good fast paced games now left are U.T and quake
