I was wondering if anyone uses Gimp 2, or does everyone here use photoshop? Has anyone used both? What is the pros and cons of each program? Any additional information you have please feel free to share.

I'm looking to start doing some basic sigs and such, mostly as a hobby. I've only used Gimp 2 as of right now (my sig below was created with Gimp 2). I've been pleased with Gimp 2 and want to know if I should consider photoshop or should only consider it if I were to do more than messing around.

Once you learn GIMP fully, try the Photoshop trial for 30days and decide which one you like best.

Gimp isn't very user friendly - in my opinion. I googled to find some tutorials on how to use it and found a couple very helpful tutorials. So far I have really enjoyed it and it seems very powerful. I learned how to use layers and found that to be very helpful. Plus it seems you can add tool bars on different windows within Gimp to aid in browsing through different painbrush styles, fonts, etc quickly.

What brought me to check Gimp out was I read/heard somewhere that Gimp is the opensource equivalent to Photoshop and as the saying goes 'money talks'. I have posted my first sigs (realize I've only been doing this for a week or two) in the 'Show off' Section. That might help you to see what my first couple of sigs look like and add to answer you question.

I like Visions idea to learn Gimp well and then give the 30-day trial.

Out of the comments thus far it seems this is a Gimp-free site. I was kind of hoping to have some additional instructions on techniques that might not be in a tutorial or not easily found online somewhere.
