My First Avatar, my Second go at PS.

I need help, say i wanna make a image i found Just the Head and Hair.
Such as:
How would I Get Just The Features i want. I wanna make a sig with his hair and face..

Just a tip about your avatar, add a 1-2 pixel stroke to your text so it stands out more.

For the text layer, right click and go to "Blending Options" (I haven't used PS in a while, so if it's wrong, please correct me). "Stroke" should be at the bottom of the list on the left.

or you can select canvas (control A) and then go to edit-stroke and you should see the settings.
