Notepad is godly tool, even MacGyver would use it if he would be nerd.

It doesn't work because its encrypted, so i open it and its all symbols

IF those symbols are "webdings" symbols then you just need to (paste all) and change the font to Arial. But if those symbols are alt codes (©®«¬¬«±¶µ¹¿¾½¼»º and so on) then i can't help you.

I still don't understand why your msn was saving log files in .xef since the only time I've ever come up with that file extension was in an e-commerce class which was using it for a program that handled accounting. (eManager if I recall)

Tried that, i couldn't work out how to work it. And my MSN saves in .xml, but they got encrypted to .xef.

i sorta think something's wrong with your computer.. even if it was encrypting it for god knows what reason, it shouldn't be encrypting it to .xef. try renaming the log to .xml then copying it and opening it, or upload it to a ftp and see if you can view it like a webpage.

If that doesn't work, you can always try renaming it .doc .htm .html or even .php. If your computer has problems associating .xml to the proper program parameters then a simpler form such as the ones i just listed might work.
