I use a Linksys 2.4ghz Wireless-G Broadband Router for my desktops/laptop, and up until recently I haven't had any issues with it. I was trying to send a friend a video on MSN Messenger, and it was going sooo slow. A message popped up about "reasons why my transfer might be slow" and it said a probable fix would be to forward some ports. I figured my Cable was just having a bad day so I shrugged it off. Now I went to 192.168.1.1 (the default IP for Most routers I believe) and entered the password... nothing happened. It said "You do not have permission to access this page." I entered my admin info again, and same result. I can live with the slow msn transfer speed, but this may become a problem in the future if I need to forward some ports for something more important. Am I screwed?

no - if it is wireless it can be due to strength of the signal. I suggest u look at how strong the signal is on your computer - stronger it is the faster it is. If it is weak i suggest u put it high as possible in a plac where a signal can travel directly to where u have your wireless computer.

My router is no more than 3 feet of open desk from where the card is, signal strength is not an issue. Standard Msn transfer speed isn't the issue either, I could still do 30-40kbps uploads on msn up until recently. Now i get a little message on the top of my chat windows saying "If you are experiencing slower transfer speeds, click here to find out why"
I click it and it gives me a bunch of * things like.. "check to see if your internet plugs are inserted all the way." or "Maybe you are just experiencing high latency" * like that.

Yeah if you leave the login blank and type "admin" for password it should work. I think you need to Enable DMZ hosting. Click enable and put the last part of your IP in the field (if your ip was 10.11.12.13 - you would put 13). Click save and it should be fixed.

Umm just enable DMZ like he did..
Go to 192.168.1.1, which is ususally the default IP for linksys router. Type that in your web browser, btw. Leave user name blank and type "admin" for pw. Once in, click "Advanced" or w/e, the link on the far right. Once that loads, click DMZ. In DMZ you enter the last digits of your global IP. To find your global ip, go to run, enter "cmd" and run it. This will bring up command window, now enter "ipconfig", and press enter. It should bring up your global IP (the one thats like 192.168.1.100). Enter the last three digits in the DMZ box 192.168.1.xxx, then hit the button. This should work on most linksys routers..also check your connection to the router like xtreme said. Mine is in another room because I have a few different computers in my house along with a couple wireless laptops, mostly in different places. Sorry if this was confusing got lost somewhere, Im doing it out of memory. Tell me if it doesnt work and Ill check when I get home. |
