This is really starting to piss me off, I've had it for about...6 months now. I can get normal fps (frames per second) for 5 sec outbreaks, which after this time, feel like heaven in any game.

<_< Gfx card: nviada (h/e spelled) 5500 (for my laptop..)
<_< RAM: 1.5 gb
<_< Computer: Dell Inspiron 5160
<_< Age: A little over a year...
<_< Disk space: Over 15 gb free on a 40 gb disk (most of it is unpartioned space, C:/takes 27 gb, and 15gb of that is free)
<_< Have run antivirus countless times, such as mcafee, norton(sucks), bit defender, spybot search and destroy...ect...
<_< When playing a game my cpu usage is usually less than 50%, and my commit charge is 200-400/1388.
<_< I always have any non-system programs closed when running a game (except explorer.exe lol)
<_< I have a good internet connection.
<_< My computer's fan is clean.
<_< I call it FPS hell...

Any help is GREATLY appreciated, since Dave seems like bigger computer guru than myself :P

And you should take an english class, $2000 laptop I think there's tech issues right now, not needing someone to tell me just to go buy a whole new comp, considering this laptop is a ****load faster than my desktop, zzz. And I found a gfx that will fit, I'm going to try to get that

Hey kenner,

Never been a fan of Laptops myself. Never thought they were good game machines.

However, if it's a top of the range one:

What's processor speed? (GHz -- most modern games need at least 2.4 -- 2.8 + is excellent).

Try reinstalling the drivers for your Video card. Might help.

Try a defragment -- I know, it's sucky, but..

If you have no luck, try this:

Start , Right Click My Computer , Properties, Advanced, Advanced, Performance , Settings , Virtual Memory, Change, System Managed Size.

Apply, Close, Apply, Apply, OK, Clase, OK .. etc. etc.

Not sure it'll do a great deal, because you're not getting "Virtual Memory Low" ... also, try setting priority to 'Highest' in the task manager.

Otherwise, yeah, try a new Video card -- out of interest, what game is it you're trying? I have a nVidia GeForce 550 FX too!

P.S. -- my PC is a dell. they're not great, but they're pretty good. my favourites - for whole PC's, not components - go:
acer
dell
custom

I've done everything you've already said there lol, none of it helped before, and I defrag once a week :P

i have a 2.80 ghz

so i think i'm just stuck getting a new card, or opening up my computer to make sure the fan for the gfx card isn't dirty...but opening my laptop is a pain in the ass....like 30 screws all over the place...

and, this is applying to everything, even flash games off newgrounds, which is pretty sad...

Sucks man. If you can spare it, back important stuff on to CD, DVD or web-server, and go for an XP format. Make your laptop all shiny and new again.

If you have the time / patience that is. Heh. :\

Otherwise, yeah .. new card time.
