comp problems

i just got a new comp and im having some problems wiht my interent connection im on 56k dial-up.

My first problem is that it takes 5 dial attempts to connect ot the interent....secondly once I get connected to the interenet when i try to disconnect my computer locks up and im forced to manually power down.. any help would be appreciated....

If there are any drivers to install for the modem, make sure they're the most recent.
(Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Modems (or, possibly, Network Adaptors).

Also, make sure your ISP's software is properly installed (AOL, Yahoo, etc.). Try reinstalling.

Finally, do an Adware, Spyware, Malware and Virus Scan.
