Try this.

Boot until you can use the PC normally (or, until the Start Bar etc. isn't there).

Open Notepad. If you have no Start Bar, open Task Manage (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), and type C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe .

When Notepad opens, File>Open: C:\WINDOWS\system.ini

Find the line with the following text:

shell=

Put a semi colon at the BEGINNING of that line - so you have ;shell=[whatever].
Then, create a new line with the following:

shell=explorer.exe

Restart. If you get a message pop up saying something has changed, click No.

If that doesn't work, try starting your PC using a program such as "NTFS Dos" (Google!), and replace SHELL32.DLL and explorer.exe - both in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ .

If none of those work, it'd be best to go for a Format.

Good luck,
Dave.
