need serious help

my computer works great til i leave it alone for a few mins sometimes while i am still on it but, it will say my connection has been reset and when i try to log back onto msn it says my default gateway is offline it is very annoying and making me mad please help me

Is it a laptop? Your default gateway is the router that you get your internet from. Most laptops disable your network card when the battery gets low. Is that the case?

no it is a desktop and i know what a default gateway is but i didnt know that could stop me from accessing the internet

Is your gateway firewalled?
And is your computer firewalled? If both of them are firewalled it could cause your internet to cut out.

well they have both been firewalled and then all the sudden it just starts messing up ever since i got firefox

i thought about that but i got rid of firefox and still same thing happens
