Top 5 Most Anticipated Wii Launch Titles

We give a run-down of the titles we think are going to keep gamers lined up late on Wii Launch Eve.
by Chris Buffa

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz

Publisher: Sega

Super Monkey Ball: Banana BlitzThe original Super Monkey Ball was, dare I say it, the best GameCube launch title of the bunch, and while many consider Twilight Princess to be the killer Wii app, I think there's a good chance that the upcoming Banana Blitz takes the crown. Unlike Link's latest adventure, this Super Monkey Ball was built from the ground up for the Wii. The controls have a bit of a learning curve, just to get the hang of the Wiimote's sensitivity, but it won't be long before you're making death-defying leaps of faith and speeding down ramps en route to the goal. Plus, in addition to the main game, there are 50 mini games to enjoy with up to three other people. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is attractive, fast, and fully loaded. Buy it immediately.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion

Publisher: Atlus

Trauma Center: Second OpinionI was disappointed to learn that this Trauma Center is a remake of the DS original (dubbed "Wii-make"), but it's still on the list of must haves, especially if you've never played its prequel. Atlus has managed to really nail the controls, and the result is a fun surgery game that'll task you with performing all sorts of operations, from standard glass removal to cutting tumors from the body. Furthermore, the game's visuals look hot, there's remixed music, an all-new chapter to experience, a brand new character to play as, and some new instruments to use. All of this makes Second Opinion more of a special edition than a rehash, so be sure to add it to your cart during your Wii shop fest.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Publisher: Nintendo

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight PrincessThis latest Zelda has been put in a very precarious situation. On one hand, at least as far as die hard Nintendo fans are concerned, it's the number one game to buy for the Wii, and it's probably going to sell hundreds of thousands of copies before the year is over. But on the other, it wasn't specifically designed for the system, so it's not necessarily the best showpiece to casual or non-gamers that may be looking for more accessible games such as Excite Truck and Super Monkey Ball. However, I'm pretty confident that Twilight Princess is going to kick some serious booty. Nintendo hasn't divulged many details about the story, but the game looks stunning and it plays well enough, though the bow and arrow mechanics need some tweaking. But I fully expect Twilight Princess to sell 1:1 with the system for the most part. If you crave adventure games, this one's a no brainer.

Excite Truck

Publisher: Nintendo

Excite TruckIf racing is what you desire, Excite Truck should definitely satisfy. This fast-paced arcade style racer puts you behind the wheel of a supped up truck and tasks you with racing to the finish line, except instead of slowly maneuvering around corners and riding along "real world" tracks, you're barreling through the desert, a beach, and a forest (among other locations), slamming into trees and cacti. The game moves at ludicrous speeds, the crashes are pretty cool, and the Wiimote controls work quite well. It's probably not going to be the deepest, most challenging game out there, but Excite Truck will be lots of fun.

Rayman Raving Rabbids

Publisher: Ubisoft

Rayman: Raving RabbidsWherever Raving Rabbids goes, crowds follow and for good reason. Ubisoft's wildly entertaining party game goes with the Wii like Philly and cheese steaks. All of the mini games that I've seen (there are roughly 80) work really well with the system's controllers, whether it involves shooting alien bunnies with plungers or spraying them with carrot juice, which is clearly one of the best games. Say what you will about Ubisoft's other Wii titles (the atrocious N64 looking Far Cry Vengeance comes to mind), but the publisher's got a major hit on its hands with Raving Rabbids.

Zelda is the only good game on the Wii.
Oh, and that sword one. Red Steel, I think it was.
